Family Camp- Lama Foundation August 5-10 2017

Family Camp Workshop, Lama Foundation, Questa, NM, 8/20-25/17

Every year the Lama Foundation offers a Family Camp giving parents and children a chance to visit Lama Mountain, engage in the community, enjoy the outdoors, and participate in activities surrounding a theme. This year the theme was "Weaving" and I was invited to work as an artist in residence and lead weaving related workshops with the children. For much of the week we made an outdoor weaving in an aspen grove. Here I made a loom using the tress as the frame and children would collect flowers, branches, grasses, and bark and weave it into the loom. The structure proved to be durable and the installation lasted in to the winter (later pictures). I also facilitated a natural dye workshop, indoor fabric weaving, and created a loom on the playground so that younger children could enjoy weaving as well.
